Engert Plumbing and Heating Inc., has served Knoxville, TN and its surrounding areas since 1891. Founded by Fredric A. (Fritz) Engert,
the son of a German immigrant, the tradition of being a family-owned, Knoxville business continues to the present time through the leadership of present owner,
James G. Johnston Jr.

Engert Plumbing and Heating Inc. became a part of the Knoxville scene in 1892 when the business was located at 714 Gay Street.
In 1955, Frank R. Engert purchased the Samuel McCammon home (built in 1849) and the company was moved to that location where it remains.
In 1901, the
DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) placed a stone marking the site as the home of the founder of Knoxville, James White.
That stone remains on the property today. In 1984, the McCammon home was placed on the
National Register of Historic Places.
Several years ago, Engert Plumbing & Heating, Inc., required an expanded facility to contain its ever growing business. Because of the commitment to our heritage,
instead of moving to a new location, expansion and remodeling was completed to allow the buisiness to continue to grow, but more importantly,
all work was done in a way that did not compromise the integrity of the original home.

With such a long business history in Knoxville, Engert has been privileged to be involved in many of the buildings that have been built in the city and community.
Engert was involved in the building of the Arnstein Building (circa 1905), Knoxville's first skyscraper.
Through the years, Engert has had the opportunity to actually build the original building, and then be involved in the remodeling of those buildings.
One such instance is the Miller's Building. Engert was involved in the original building, installing the air-conditioning, which gave it the
distinction of being the first building to have air-conditioning in Knoxville. Later Engert remodeled and updated the system. Then in 1999,
Engert was proud to be part of extensive renovations to that building undertaken by the Knoxville Utility Board.
The List of new building and remodeling projects completed by Engert during their long history is an extensive one.
An attempt to list all of the significant buildings still seen on the Knoxville skyline would be impossible, but notable ones would include:

Many of these projects have involved extensive remodeling of existing structures, where work was done in a way to preserve the integrity of the original structure.
Modernization was also performed on these structures so that new generations can enjoy them today. Engert Plumbing & Heating, Inc., has long been a rich part of
Knoxville's history. Our commitment to our community and our willingness to be a part of the preservation of our community has been proven throughout the years.
That same commitment continues as we move into the future. Engert has long held the trust and confidence of architects, builders and owners as we strive to
follow our motto
"we continue to serve the customer as we do ourselves".
